Exploring Watercolor

Learn the skills, techniques and design principles needed to successfully manipulate watercolor - the most luminous and beautiful of  paints.  Designed for beginning and intermediate students.

 

Supplies:

EXPLORING WATERCOLOR  with Linda – SUPPLY LIST

Paper Towels

Covered palette w/ 15-25 color wells

Kneaded or art gum eraser

1 sheet 22” x 30” 140lb cold-pressed Arches watercolor paper        2B pencil

1” flat watercolor brush

Small spray bottle

# 6 & # 10 round watercolor brushes

2 plastic quart  water containers

2” flat watercolor brush (a cheap 2” sponge brush will do)        Mr. Clean Magic Eraser – Original

Premium Saran Wrap

1 roll of gauze

Salt

1 hard plastic card (i.e. credit card)

Any stencils you may have

1 sheet white unryu rice paper, 12” x 12”

1” masking tape

Several sheets drawing paper

Non-porous, 20” x 30” surface to paint on (i.e. Masonite or foam core board)

 

NOTE: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING 3 PAINT COLLECTIONS: Artist Quality, Student Quality, Prang 12 Color ½ Pan Palette

ARTIST QUALITY PAINT – If you can afford Artist Quality Paints, get them!  These would be the Daniel Smith (DS) and the Winsor Newton (WN) brands at The Art Location.  (NOTE: It’s OK to split a tube with another student.)

Quinacridone Gold (either DS or WN)

PRANG 12 COLOR ½ PAN PALETTE – It is the least expensive option and we can work with it, but it’s not as satisfying and it’s harder to get quantities of rich color.
